Why Does Half Life 2 Episode 1 And 2 Say Microsoft Encountered A Problem?

computer meets all requirements, and graphics card is fine.Can anyone help please? . half life 2 works, just not episode 1 or 2, im installing off the disk, its just the epi 1 and 2 what says microsoft has encountered
