Limited Connectivity On Realtek RL8187 Wireless LAN USB?

I have a deadline on my work and this really sucks. I bought a Realtek RL8187 Wireless LAN USB adapter a few weeks ago hoping that it would boost the wifi signal I'm receiving in my room. How do you go about
